The Western Railway has installed TV screens on Mumbai local trains, the railways formally announced on Sunday morning. The screens will display commercial advertisements and railway/public interest information as of now.
"We have operationalised an infotainment contract by installing infotainment screens in 8 EMU rakes. A total of 20 EMU rakes are to be fitted with these LCD screens," Sumit Thakur, Western Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer said.
"This contract has been awarded to M/s Digitech Engineers and Computech Private Limited. This initiative will fetch "non-fare revenue' to the tune of Rs 65,00,000/- per annum. The contract tenure is 5 years and total revenue accruable to the Railways will be Rs 3.45 crore," he said.

"It is for the first time that an EMU rake is fitted with LCD screen of the size 24. This will display commercial advertisements as well as railway/public related information in the proportion of 70:30 in time and space," he added.
