The android app was launched on October 16, on the occasion of National Mails Day
Post office services are now only a click away. Mumbaikars can now know who their postman is, call the person on the given number and ask their queries without even visiting the post office. This has become possible as an app - Know Your Postman - was released on the occasion of National Mails Day (October 16). Locations of all post offices and over 86,000 localities in Mumbai have been synced with Google map.
The Android app is the brainchild of Postmaster General of Mumbai Region Swati Pandey. "The unique app, designed and created by India Post, Mumbai Region, enables citizens to get details of their beat postman when searched by locality, area, post office name and pincode, and more than 86,000 localities of Mumbai city and suburb are available in the database," she told mid-day.
"There are 89 delivery post offices of Mumbai city with approximately 2,000 postmen/women with mobile devices. Mumbai delivers approximately 2 to 2.5 lakh accountable mails every day, which includes speed post, registered posts, Aadhaar cards, passports etc.
The app "Know your Postman" is India Post, Mumbai Region's initiative towards digitisation of the postal network in a bid to facilitate the working population of Mumbai to directly communicate with their beat postman and get delivery as per their convenience.
