Gone are the days when only those who didn't score well in Class X exams, but still needed a job, would apply for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) courses. This year, a total of 101 candidates, who have scored 100 per cent in Class X have applied for ITI admission. Increasing demand for skilled labour force around the world has led many to opt for these vocational courses.

The ITIs have been a popular choice for many as it allows professional technical training in fields such as electronics and computers. That is followed by internships and job opportunities in their respective fields. As the admissions process began for ITI this year, the trend seems to be changing with many high scorers applying for admission. At the end of first round of admissions, 68 per cent seats are already allotted.

This year, a total of 2.86 lakh applied for registration for admission to ITI, out of which 2.62 lakh completed the process. Out of these, a total of 36,312 applications are by students who have scored above 75 per cent in Class X. Among these, 101 students are 100 per cent scorers in Class X.

"ITI courses are job oriented. Not only do they allow professional training in technical courses, these certificates have credibility which offer good placements too. After Class X, it is definitely a promising option for many," shared a teacher from ITI in the city.
