Mumbai hits one-crore first dose Covid-19 vaccination milestone

Mumbai has reached the milestone of administering 1 crore first doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The feat was achieved before the completion of one year of the national vaccination campaign, which started on January 16 last year. 1,00,16,904 citizens received the first dose till Wednesday evening. So far, 1.81 crore vaccine doses have been administered across the city, including both doses at government, municipal and private centres.

The administration had set a target of fully vaccinating the adult population (18 years and above) in Mumbai, i.e. 92,36,500 citizens. The second dose has been given to 88 per cent of the adult population, i.e. 81,37,850 citizens, so far. As of Wednesday evening, 1,00,16,904 citizens, including the 15-17-year-olds and the adult population, were given the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The National vaccination campaign started in January 2021 with health workers. Thereafter, it was expanded to various groups, including the senior citizens, people aged 45 years and above, lactating mothers, 18 year+ citizens, and 15-17-year-olds from January 3, 2022. The Mumbai civic corporation took additional measures by organising special vaccination camps for persons with disabilities, tribals, prisoners, citizens of the LGBTQ community, etc.

15,110 youngsters vaccinated so far

The state government has set a target of vaccinating 6,12,461 youngsters, in the 15-17 years age group, in Mumbai. However, the BMC has set a target of around 9,22,000 adolescents, based on the estimated population of 2021. So far, about 15,110 have taken the first dose.
