Ultra HD 4K cameras at stations will not miss a single commuter on railway premises henceforth. The IP-based CCTVs are networked on optical fibre cable and the video feed of cameras will be displayed not only at local RPF posts but also at a centralised CCTV control room at divisional and zonal levels. The plan was first mooted roughly 15 years ago after 11/7 train blasts.
RailTel, the Indian Railways public sector undertaking, has now installed cameras at 813 major railway stations across the country, including Mumbai divisions of both Central and Western Railway.
"It is a project covering all railway stations. The CCTV cameras of stations and video feeds are being monitored at three levels to ensure enhanced safety and security on railway premises. RailTel has also completed work of setting up centralised control rooms. An independent Network Management System (NMS) has also been provided for monitoring cameras, server, UPS and switches which can be viewed from any web browser by authorised personnel," a senior official said.
The recording of the video feeds from CCTV cameras will be stored for 30 days. "The work was hampered partially due to the pandemic lockdown, restrictive supply of material and restrictions on movement. However, with things coming back to normal, the project is now being executed smoothly," he added.
