Mumbai girl Priti Kamat has topped the Chartered Accountants Intermediate (IPC) examination (old syllabus), which was held in July this year. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) announced the results of the IPC and Intermediate (New) examination on Monday.
Kamat, who did not expect the rank, told mid-day, "I was expecting that I might have to write one paper all over again, forget about topping the merit list. I checked the merit list because my mother forced me to and I was surprised to a great extent."
Priti, who has scored 55 per cent, said, "You pass if you score above 50 per cent, so my mother asked me to check the merit list. I was really happy after checking it." Her father is an engineer and mother is in the field of cost and account management. In fact, it was her mother's work, which led to Priti's interest in the field.
"My mother advised me that CA is a really prestigious degree and it also opens up many career avenues," said Priti, who wants to make a career in investment banking. She is now looking for opportunities to start her articleship. She has completed her B. Com degree from M L Dahanukar College in Vileparle.
While Priti has topped the IPC (old syllabus) examination, Delhi boy Arjun Mehra has ranked in the new syllabus exam. A total of 53,950 students appeared for the exam and the passing percentage is 0.66 per cent.
