The Girgaon chowpatty viewing deck was inaugurated on Sunday by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar. After the Dadar Chowpatty deck, which was inaugurated on February 9, this is the second sea-viewing deck in the city.
The BMC has come up with this second viewing deck at Netaji Subhash Road, known as the âQueen's Necklace'. The idea was initiated before the opening of the first one and the actual work started in September 2021. The deck is constructed on the stormwater drainage (SWD), as is the Shivaji Park deck.
The cost of the deck was around R3.5 crore and the work was completed in seven months. The area of the deck is 470 square metres and according to BMC officials, it can accommodate around 500 people.
"The deck has been set up considering all the factors like high tides, low tides, altitudes and from a scientific point of view. All the relevant permissions required to set it up were obtained before the commencement of work. The maintenance of this viewing deck will be done by BMC," said a BMC official.
