With the central government directing the state to increase the gap between two doses of the Covishield vaccine, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Tuesday that the same would be implemented within the next two to three days.
Senior citizens who have taken the first dose in the first week of March would have to take the second one in the third or fourth week of April. Meanwhile, there was a drop in the number of health care and frontline workers who took their second dose on Tuesday.
"The revised gap between the two doses will be implemented after two to three days," said Suresh Kakani, additional commissioner of the BMC. Meanwhile, the civic body is also preparing to start vaccinating people above 45 years of age.
A total number of 4,998 health care and frontline workers received the jab on Tuesday. Earlier, the same number used to be around 7,000 to 8,000. Until now, 1.29 lakh people have taken the second dose of Covishield. On Tuesday, 37,120 people received the vaccine, out of which 20,550 were senior citizens and 4,535 were people above 45 years of age with comorbidities.
