Mumbai: Five Tardeo fire victims still receiving treatment

Three of those badly injured in the January 22 fire are still in the ICU, while the other two are stable and recovering fast, says Bhatia Hospital

Five residents of Sachinam Heights in Tardeo, who were injured in the fire on January 22, are still undergoing treatment at Bhatia Hospital, according to an official statement. Three of them are still in the ICU. An official statement from Dr Satyadeo Malik, CEO of Bhatia Hospital, stated, "Twelve injured residents of Sachinam Heights were brought to Bhatia Hospital. While seven of them were treated and discharged, the five others are still undergoing treatment. Of these five patients, two are admitted in the ward and are stable and recovering fast."

The statement added, "The remaining three patients are in the ICU. Shubhangi Salkar, 51, is stable. Dilip V Salkar is on T-piece to deliver humidified oxygen and to facilitate weaning for breathing difficulty. His condition is critical, but improving. Mamata Salkar, 32, admitted with breathing difficulty is on intermittent high-flow nasal cannula therapy. She is critical, but showing signs of improvement."

Nine residents have so far died following the incident. The latest to succumb was Dhawal Salkar, 23. He had suffered 9 per cent burn injuries and was undergoing treatment at Masina Hospital in Byculla. He died on January 28, and the cause of death was determined to be internal lung injuries due to excessive inhalation of smoke. Thirty people were injured in the level-3 (major) fire in the building.
