Mumbai: Five critically injured in Dharavi slum fire die

Of the 17 people who were injured in the fire that broke out after a cylinder blast in Dharavi's Kamla Nagar slum on August 29, five have succumbed to their burns. An eight-year-old boy is among the deceased.

According to reports of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), five of the injured were in a critical condition post the incident and 12 others had suffered minor burns. However, the boy was the first to succumb to his burns on August 31. Two others died on Sunday, one was declared dead on September 1 and another on September 3. Meanwhile, out of the 12 other injured, four have been discharged, five are in a stable condition and three are critical.

The incident, which took place opposite Hotel Mubarak in Dharavi last month, was reported around 12.15 pm. Though access to the site was difficult because of the lane being narrow, the injured were immediately rescued and the fire was extinguished by 12.50 pm. The gas cylinder that exploded leading to the fire was already leaking and was left unattended outside on the road.
