Mumbai fire brigade boosts response capabilities with 22 quick response vehicles

A fleet of 22 Quick Response Vehicles (QRVs) will soon be deployed in the Mumbai fire brigade. Four vehicles have already arrived and been deployed at Tagore Nagar- Vikhroli, Borivli, Goregaon, and Parel. This addition will strengthen the brigade's efforts to reach emergency spots quickly.

Over the years, heavy traffic and narrow roads have posed challenges for fire brigade vehicles to reach the scene on time. In response, the fire brigade has implemented various changes and deployed vehicles and equipment to improve response times. The QRVs, capable of carrying a 500-litre water tank and rescue tools, are a significant addition to their capabilities.

Chief Fire Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar stated that the Mumbai fire brigade recently made the decision to include 22 QRVs in their fleet. These vehicles are smaller in size compared to the traditional larger fire service vehicles, enabling them to navigate through traffic more effectively.

The city comprises 24 administrative wards, with the ‘D' (Tardeo, Malabar Hill) and ‘E' (Byculla) wards near the main fire station in Byculla. Consequently, the new QRVs will be deployed in the remaining 22 wards. Currently, the four vehicles are stationed at Tagore Nagar (Godrej compound, Vikhroli), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation civil training centre (Borivli), Lodha Fiorenza building (Goregaon), and Lodha Park building (G South). With 19 QRVs already in place for the 19 mini fire stations, the Mumbai fire brigade is well-equipped to handle emergency situations. Each QRV is staffed by a driver, a supervisor, and two firemen.
