Mumbai: Fire breaks out in residential building in Chembur

A Fire broke out in a residential building in Chembur east on Saturday afternoon. Six people were shifted to a hospital due to suffocation, condition of all admitted is stable, the BMC said.

The BMC said that the fire was confined to electric wiring, garbage and scrapped household materials in an open duct from ground to 12th floor level and the wooden door on the terrace. Entire staircase right up to terrace was smoke logged and heat density was much higher on 11th and 12th floor.

A total number of four people were stranded on the parapet on 2nd floor. The officials rescued about 33 people from various places of the premises including parapet, rooms, terrace and staircase, etc. The fire was completely controlled at around 4:59 pm, the civic body said.

According to the BMC, the incident was reported to the officials at around 2:43 pm on Saturday following which the fire brigade rushed to the spot.

As per the information given to the BMC, the fire was reported on the 12th floor of the 12-storey building Rail View MIG Society in new Tilak Nagar nagar area, near Lokmanya Tilak Terminal in Chembur. The officials termed the fire as level 2.
