A fire broke out in a commercial centre in Mumbai Santacruz area on Monday evening, in which 37 people were safely evacuated. While, a 19-year old, faced suffocation in the fumes and was taken to Cooper Hospital. The fire was confined to electrical instalments of the commercial centre.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed that the fire erupted at 5.22 pm, and the incident was reported at 5.57 pm. The incident took place at the Options Commercial Centre near Milan Subway in Santacruz West, Mumbai. The blaze broke at the second floor gala (shop) in the ground plus two upper floored building. Fire was confined to the electric wiring, electric installations etc.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade's (MFB) vehicles were sent to the spot at once. Total 37 persons were rescued from second floor and terrace of the building with help of ladder and stairs by the firemen, the BMC informed. However, a 19-year old, identified as Khushi Dhadwe, faced suffocation due to the fire and was taken to Cooper Hospital. The patient was discharged after required treatment, civic official informed.
MFB declared fire at level 1 fire. Four fire engines, one Quick Response Vehicle, two Jumbo Tankers, and an ambulance were at the spot. The fire was doused at 7.14 pm, the BMC informed. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

In another incident on Monday, at least 35 huts were destroyed when a fire broke out in a slum colony in Thane district. The incident occurred in the Circus Ground area in Ambernath around 10 am.
No casualties were reported in the incident. The fire gutted 35 huts in the slum, but the residents were evacuated safely, Thane disaster management said.
The blaze was put out in an hour, while the cause for the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, in a recent horrifying incident in Thane, a state transport bus caught a massive fire. Nearly 45 passengers travelling in the bus had a narrow escape after nearly half of the the vehicle was engulfed in the blaze. The incident took place on Sunday.
The incident took place at 8.18 am near Vitawa bridge close to Kalwa police station, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell said. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus carrying 40-45 passengers was on way from from Khopat bus depot to Pali in neighbouring Raigad district when its engine suddenly burst into flame.
However, all the passengers were evacuated safely on time.
