A major fire broke out in a ground-plus-one-storey structure at Vardhaman Industrial Estate in Dahisar around 11 pm on Saturday. The blaze gutted five shops before the fire brigade brought it under control. Officials are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
"We received a fire call and acted swiftly. Luckily, it was night time and the complex was shut down. By the time we reached, locals had rushed to the scene to put out the fire," Deputy Fire Officer Purshottam Sandikar said. No injuries were reported due to the incident.

According to Sandikar, there were no fire-fighting pipes but the structure had fire extinguishers which the security guard used initially when the fire broke out. "We regularly arrange for fire safety programmes for civilians so they are better aware of how to deal with such situations and it is advised for them to attend these sessions," he added.
