Mumbai: Expect more 15-car trains on Western Railway from this week

Western Railway on Tuesday announced the introduction of more 15-car local trains to boost passenger capacity on the city's suburban line. "In an initiative to provide better train services and accommodate more passengers over the suburban section, Western Railway has decided to convert 12 local train services of 12-car to 15-car services, six services each in both directions," Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Sumit Thakur said.

"Of these 12 services, six are on the fast line. These services will be effective from January 12, 2023," the official added. "With this, the carrying capacity of each train will increase by 25 per cent. The total number of 15-car services will increase from 132 to 144 over WR's Suburban section. There will be no change in the total number of services, ie 1,383 services including 79 AC local services. The augmentation will provide additional accommodation to commuters for their convenience and comfort," he added.

WR special locals for Mumbai Marathon

For the convenience of participants attending the TATA Mumbai Marathon to be held on Sunday, January 15, Western Railway will run two additional special slow local trains early morning of January 15 from Virar to Churchgate and Churchgate to Bandra. Further, Borivli to Churchgate, which is scheduled to depart at 3.50 am from Borivli will be preponed by five minutes from Borivli station and will depart at 3.45 am instead of 3.50 am.
