Mumbai: Event manager held on charge of rape

The Pant Nagar police arrested an event manager on Tuesday for allegedly raping a woman after promising her marriage and then blackmailing her. As per the FIR registered on July 21, the 33-year-old survivor met the accused, 35, on e gaming platform PUBG some years ago. The police said they fell in love and he had promised to marry her.

The police said after some time when the survivor asked about marriage, the accused did not give satisfactory answers and after some days refused to marry her. As per the complaint registered by her, one day the accused and she met in a hotel. He allegedly sexually assaulted her and filmed the act to threaten her. The complainant then decided to approach the police.

"Based on her complaint we registered an FIR and apprehended the accused from his residence in Kalina, Santacruz. He also had another affair and hence might have refused to marry the victim. The court has remanded him in police custody," said an officer from Pant Nagar police station. The police have booked the accused under sections 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
