Mumbai: Doubling rate of Covid-19 cases rises to 2,154 days

After witnessing a significant rise in the test positivity rate and new cases on Sunday, the TPR fell below 1 along with a marginal dip in new cases on Monday. As per the BMC report, 210 new cases were reported along with five deaths. The TPR was at 0.82. On Saturday, the new cases were 176 and TPR was 0.69%. On August 19, the city recorded the second wave's lowest TPR at 0.53% after which the graph has been gradually going up. Mumbai's TPR dipped below 1%, a first in the second wave on July 29.

Four of the five deceased had comorbidities. While two of the deceased were in the age between 40-60, the other three deceased were above 60 years of age. The city witnessed zero deaths for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic on October 17. The city last recorded zero covid fatalities on March 26, 2020. It was on August 16 that the numbers fell below 200 and recorded the second wave's lowest daily cases.

On April 11, 2020, when the city recorded 189 cases after which the graph went up. The city reported the highest number of cases - 11,163 on April 4 and then the declining trend started. There has been a steady fall in the test positivity rate after May 05 when the TPR was recorded 10.96. The doubling rate improved to 2154 days on Monday. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 percent as 317 people recovered and were discharged on Monday.

In the state, the new cases saw a marginal drop in both new cases. As per the state health department report, 751 cases were reported along with 15 deaths across the state. The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 percent as 1555 recovered and got discharged on Monday. Currently the state has 13649 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal drop in new cases. As per the state report, 399 cases were reported in the MMR region including cases from Mumbai.

Apart from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivili reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR region with 55 new cases. It was followed by Navi Mumbai with 29 cases each. While Thane Municipal Corporation reported 24 cases, 17 cases were registered in Panvel. MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered three deaths in Navi Mumbai.
