Congratulations are in order once again for dancer Achintya Bose, who debuted in Netflix's Yeh Ballet in 2020, and has now bagged a seat for a part scholarship at Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts, a prominent dance school in California. To raise the amount that Bose is falling short of, he has become the youth ambassador for environment-centric global organisation ARDEA Foundation "Pursuing my childhood dream of dance is a luxury. It is an honour [his admission]. The challenge to train with the best is a privilege, and this privilege itself is challenging," he told this diarist.
St Andrew's College in Bandra completes four decades of imparting knowledge, nurturing students into young adults and creating some of the best memories for them; at least this is the experience this diarist and ex-student shares. But if you don't want to go by our word alone, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) credited the college with an impressive A+ grade and 3.35 cumulative grade point average (CGPA). This assessment kicked off the college's Ruby jubilee year in April.
Keeping the celebratory wheels in motion, Delwyn Jude Remedios, alumnus and current assistant professor, department of design at IIT Hyderabad, created a logo that signifies a sailing through 40 years. We learned that the logo was revealed to students through a treasure hunt around campus that had participants put the jigsaw-like pieces together. Principal Dr Marie Fernandes (left) shared, "We have a lot planned this year; our students will take up social justice activities, and research projects and papers that focus on relevant topics including water and food, to be presented at various conferences. We also have ruby jubilee merchandise available for sale at the college."
The daily commute via Byculla railway station on the Central Railway just got extra special. Among the oldest halts on India's railway map, the 169-year-old station received the UNESCO's Asia Pacific Cultural Heritage award for 2022. The restoration project had been initiated by Shaina Chudasama Munot, trustee, I Love Mumbai with the support of conservation architect Abha Narain Lambah and Minal Bajaj of The Bajaj Trust Group as part of their CSR efforts. Chudasama Munot, shared that the honour is a first for India. She said, "On Monday, we presented Railways Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw ji the UNESCO plaque we received for the restoration of the Byculla railway station to its original glory. Byculla is one of the oldest railway stations in the city. This project was done for the commuters by our NGO as a tribute to Mumbai. I hope the success of this effort will inspire people, even in small towns, to clean up and beautify the stations in their towns." Byculla was one of the original stations when the Bombay-Thane railway was inaugurated in April 1853.
James Ferreira turned 67 yesterday, and we were all invited to the party: a short video snippet of him singing âHappy Birthday' that had the Internet joining in for the celebrations. A few reflections of his life that the designer began expressing in the caption of the video continued over a call with this diarist, "I enjoy getting older because life teaches you so much. I have no regrets and have done everything with love." This diarist recalls a memory from when her father encountered Ferreira at Bada Saab while getting a shirt stitched. Ferreira took over and offered the tailor stitching the shirt a pattern that made for the best cut shirt owned by the customer.
