Mumbai: Dahisar college students pool in pocket money for flood relief

Students of Thakur college pack the relief materials

Fifty students from Thakur Ramnarayan College of Arts and Commerce, Dahisar East, pooled in their pocket money to raise Rs 45,350 for flood relief.

The collection was made as part of a campaign organised by the NSS Junior College Unit in association with the Indian Development Foundation (IDF) and actor Sonu Sood's Sood Charity Foundation.

The money will be used to help the residents of Chiplun, Mahad and Mahabaleshwar that were battered by recent floods.

Every student took a lot of effort for the cause, said Dhananjay Singh, NSS programme officer, and Gopal Raithatha, NSS Advisor for junior colleges. Dr Narayan Iyer, CEO of IDF, lauded the good work.

Sood Charity Foundation donated goods to rehabilitate 650 families and also provided 54,000 milk packets, said the organisers.

The relief materials include dry ration, drinking water, soap, milk packets, dry snacks, chocolates, mats, plates, bowls, glasses, spoons and disinfectants. They will be sent to the affected areas on Thursday.

The Thakur college students also collected used clothes and blankets from their families and relatives, said the organisers.

College principal Dr Ravish R Singh said, "The entire project will have a major positive impact on rehabilitating 1,000 families."
