The Jogeshwari police have registered a case against an unknown person for hacking into the social media accounts of a woman and sending her male friends obscene messages and circulating screenshots of these chats. The 31-year-old woman's marriage was called off by the groom and his family after the person also sent them the screenshots. The police said the accused did this intentionally so that her marriage would be called off.
The police said the accused took the help of a hacker and got into the woman's social media accounts. She was not active on social media. The police said some of her friends ignored the messages but some told her about them around mid-March. Her fiancé called off their wedding around that time telling her the messages were the reason.
The woman then checked her Facebook and Instagram accounts and saw the vulgar messages that had been sent from them. Her friends told her some of the messages were also circulated on WhatsApp. She then lodged a complaint with the Jogeshwari police.
In her statement, she said, "My Facebook account was hacked on January 8 this year and when I checked I found many chats I had not initiated. Someone had also uploaded photos and videos of me which were done without my knowledge. My marriage scheduled for April was called off due to the viral chats. My life has been spoilt." The police said the complainant suspects a colleague is behind the act as he had proposed to her a few months ago and she had refused him. They had stopped talking to each other since then.

Speaking to mid-day, Senior Inspector Balasaheb Tambe of Jogeshwari police station said, "We registered a case against the unknown hacker for allegedly hacking her Facebook and Instagram accounts and making the chats viral. The hacker also sent the screenshots of the chats to her fiancé due to which her wedding was called off. We are taking help from the cyber team to nab the accused. We think the accused hired a hacker and got her accounts hacked to intentionally get her marriage called off."
