Supriya Chiplunkar, 67, is working in the kitchen of their flat no. 207 at Samarth SRA Sahkari Grah Nirman Sanstha in Jogeshwari East. Around 7.30 pm on Monday, their caretaker Pappu Gawli, whom they hired just 15 days back, goes to the kitchen, picks up a knife and tries to slit her throat. Sudhir grabs Gawli's hand and Supriya, who has sustained a shallow cut in the throat, falls near the window. Gawli turns around and stabs Sudhir in the neck and as he falls on the floor, the caretaker stabs him in the chest, too. But Sudhir does not let go of Gawli
As Sudhir keeps Gawli occupied, Supriya picks up bowls and throws them out of the window, leaving traces of blood on them. Children notice the bowls and try to figure out what was happening

Children run upstairs and knock on the door of the elderly couple. Scared, Gawli opens the door and flees. Neighbours alert the cops, following which Senior Inspector Rajendra Mandre, under the guidance of DCP Maheshwar Reddi (Zone 10), forms teams to hunt down Gawli.
