After the RTO department invited applications for issuing fresh permits to taxis and autos last year, it came across a number of applications with fake no-objection certificates (NOCs). Thereafter, with the help of the Mumbai police, the Borivli RTO busted a gang that helped the drivers of these vehicles get fake police permissions and arrested four accused in the case on Tuesday. While two of them managed to secure bail, the other two have been sent to police custody.
Speaking to mid-day, Ravi Gaikwad, chief of Borivli RTO, said, "While scrutinising the applications, officials found out that some of the NOCs submitted along with other documents were inappropriate. Ten such applications were sent to the special branch of the Mumbai police for verification. The officers found the certificates to be fake." Thereafter, the MHB police registered an FIR in the matter under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 34 of IPC. Investigation revealed that the agents who operated from the shops outside the RTO office issued most of the certificates.
The MHB police have booked 10 applicants and agents in the case. The agents have been identified as Samir, Shrimant, Murlidhar Yadav, Bablu Tiwari, Dhumal, Kamlesh Pal, Santosh Mishra and others. "The arrested accused Ashwin Yadav, 25, and Santosh Kumar Mishra, 42, were produced before the court on Wednesday and remanded to police custody till 19 January," said an officer from MHB police station. According to the police, Santosh owns a tours and travels business and Ashwani works as an agent.
