In a shocking incident that took place in Charkop, six robbers barged into a house, tied the woman and a businessman present inside, to a chair, before looting valuables. The mastermind of the crime, who was not present at the site, has been arrested, along with three others, while three are absconding. The incident took place near new MHADA colony on March 31, on the first floor of a building.

According to sources, a real estate businessman, who is based out of Mumbai, helped his female friend in renting a house in the colony, and often visited her. On March 31, the businessman came in like any other day. But, when he entered, he was surprised to see robbers in the house. The man was, however, tied up on a chair by the burglars.

The robbers later demanded all the valuables that were in the house, but the woman refused. The burglars then snatched her chain and ring and other jewellery she was wearing. They also robbed the businessman and ran away, leaving the two tied up. Later, the businessman somehow managed to free his hands, helped the woman do the same and called the police for help.

When the cops began investigations, they came to know that the woman had a male friend named Vinod Raparti (34), whom she called her brother. Her phone records were being checked and calls were found to be from the same area as that of the burglars. The Charkop police then arrested Raprati, with the help of call records. Later, three of his other associates, Vinayk Wadam (32), Amardeep Chauhan (24) and Vishal Ramesh Pise (36) were also nabbed. On further investigation, it was found that Raparti was the mastermind behind the crime.

Vinod worked as a waiter in a bar restaurant where the woman is as bar girl. According to cops, the accused gave duplicate keys to his friends and told them to enter the woman's house on March 31, in the afternoon, when she was alone at home. The accused's friends entered the flat, and tied the lady with a rope to a chair inside the room. They did the same with the businessman who entered the house, and looted the duo.

A case has been registered against the accused under section 399 of IPC. They were produced in the Borivali Metropolitan Magistrate court, and remanded to police custody till April 12, informed an official from Charkop police station.
