Chennai-based bank employee, Kumaran Sobiya Konar, ditched his family and married the sex worker from Bangladesh; he killed her after she refused to give up the trade
Police officers on night duty at Nagpada police station on Tuesday were in for a rude shock after a man barged in and declared, "I have killed my wife, arrest me." After initial questioning, the intruder was identified as Kumaran Sobiya Konar (39), a Chennai-based bank employee.
He has been charged with the murder of his wife, a commercial sex worker from Bangladesh, operating from Kamathipura. Police said that Konar had met the sex worker around three years back, and kept visiting Kamathipura after he fell in love with her.

Konar was already a married man. His wife from Chennai deserted him after she came to know about this affair. His family also disowned him. Undeterred, Konar kept up the romance and stuck to his regular visits and even sent money regularly to the sex worker.
Two years back, the couple got married in a south Mumbai temple. But recently, Konar came to know that the deceased was having an affair with two other men. This infuriated Konar, who told the police that he had been repeatedly requesting his partner to give up the sex trade, to no avail.
Matters came to a head on Tuesday afternoon when the deceased told Konar that she wanted to break the relationship. At around 9 pm, when the deceased was soliciting customers, Konar accosted her at the very spot and stabbed her repeatedly with a knife that he had just purchased.
Police say the deceased has two children in Bangladesh. Konar has been charged with murder and remanded to police custody.
