Mumbai: Customs officials witnessed the biggest seizure of gold from three different cases in one day. More than 8.5 kg of gold was intercepted, worth more than Rs 2.1 crore.

In the first case, five different passengers were stopped from the same flight, AI-343, that landed around 1 pm from Singapore via Chennai. The total seizure from the flight was 7.049 kg of gold worth more than Rs 1.77 crore.

In the second case, Tahoor Shaikh, a resident of Bhathal, Karnataka was returning from Dubai around 6 pm by flight EK502 and arrested for the gold that he hid in socks and in a battery of a phone. The final arrest was of a 23-year old man from Kasaragod (Kerala). While arriving from Dubai, he was caught with 89 strips of gold.
