Mumbai: Covid-19 cases rise past 200; deaths, TPR drop

On Tuesday, the number of new Coronavirus cases rose past 200, while the test positivity rate (TPR) and fatalities dropped significantly. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, the city registered 218 fresh infections, one death and a TPR of 0.68 per cent. The daily cases had fallen below 200 the day before.

On Monday, the city had reported four deaths and a TPR of 0.77 per cent. The single fatality reported on Tuesday was that of a senior citizen who had comorbidities. The doubling rate improved marginally to 2,031 days. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, with 188 more people having recovered and being discharged on Tuesday.

The state health department registered a significant rise in overall new COVID-19 cases and fatalities. According to its report, 886 cases and 34 deaths were registered across the state on Tuesday. On Monday, it had recorded 686 cases and 19 deaths.

The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent. A total of 948 patients were discharged on Tuesday, leaving 11,847 active cases in the state. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessed a significant dip in new infections, with the state health department confirming 316 new ones, including those registered in Mumbai.

At 41, Navi Mumbai reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR after Mumbai, followed by 36 in the Thane Municipal Corporation. Kalyan-Dombivli reported 24 cases and Panvel 25. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 14 deaths. Kalyan-Dombivli reported five, highest in the MMR, Thane Municipal Corporation four, Panvel three, and Navi Mumbai and Thane one each.
