Accused Shohaib Shaikh was arrested by Saki Naka police
The Mumbai police arrested a man who was on the run after he allegedly murdered a bank manager with whom he was in relationship for the last three months. The couple had met on a social media site in September 2023 and the friendship bloomed into a relationship. The police are trying to ascertain the reason for their relationship going sour and the man committing the gruesome murder.
Though the murder had taken place in a hotel in Navi Mumbai on Monday, it was on Tuesday that the Mumbai police arrested the suspect identified as Shohaib Shaikh, 24. The police had received a tip-off on Tuesday that a man who had murdered a woman was in Saki Naka and about to flee to his village.
"After receiving a tip-off, the Saki Naka police tracked the suspect from his house located in Mohili village. The police had inquired about his whereabouts in the area and received information that the suspect would be arriving at Saki Naka junction," said Datta Nalawade, DCP zone 10. According to the police, Shaikh had met his girlfriend Amit Singh alias Amit Ravinder Kaur, 35, in a hotel at Kopar Khairane, Navi Mumbai, on Monday.
"The couple had met through Facebook in the month of September last year. They had developed a good friendship which later grew into a relationship," said a police officer. According to the police, Shaikh sold batteries, while Amit Kaur worked as a manager in IDFC bank in Navi Mumbai. Shaikh made a living by selling batteries while Amit Kaur was a manager in IDFC Bank at Navi Mumbai.

"As he harboured doubts about her character, in fit of rage he strangled her to death at the hotel room and fled from the scene of crime. We checked with the Turbhe police who had found Kaur's body from the hotel room and confirmed the identity of Shaikh as the person who had arrived at the hotel with Kaur," said a police officer. Shaikh, 24, had no previous criminal record and has been handed over to Turbhe police for further investigation.
