Police said the accused Tariq-us-Nazmul Shaikh was involved in many robberies in Mumbai, including breaking an ATM machine in Khar
The police, on Wednesday, arrested a 21-year-old man, accused in several theft cases, who was absconding for the past three months, from Khar. Police have recovered a country-made revolver from him. The police, in the past three months, have tried to nab the accused four times, however, they failed as the accused managed to flee to Bangladesh each time, by crossing the border.
The accused, identified as Tariq-us-Nazmul Shaikh is from the Kattihar district in Bihar, which is located a few kilometres from the Bangladesh border. Shaikh worked as a cook at a Khar-based Chinese restaurant in 2021 and later got involved in robberies. Police said the accused was involved in many robberies in Mumbai, including breaking an ATM machine in Khar in November 2021.
Speaking to mid-day sub-inspector Sachin Trimukhe of Khar police station said, "In November 2021, Shaikh and two of his accomplices had broken into an ATM centre and damaged the machine. However, they had to flee, as it had triggered an alarm. In December 2021, Shaikh was accused in a theft case, where he robbed a beauty store and stole Rs 22 lakh. We had earlier managed to arrest Shaikh's accomplices, but Shaikh was absconding."

We had set up a trap for eight days, but we failed to nab him as he had crossed the border. We tried at least four times to arrest him earlier, however, every time he managed to flee to Bangladesh, which is a few hours away from his village," said Trimukhe.
He added, "On Wednesday, we received information about Shaikh visiting Khar. We set a trap and arrested him. We have recovered a country-made revolver from him." "The probe has revealed that the accused had come to sell a gun to someone. Later, we found that he is wanted in many other housebreaking cases. We have arrested Shaikh under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act," said Trimukhe.
