The restaurant-on-wheels at CSMT will be able to accommodate 40 patrons at a time
Opening up the restaurant-on-wheels set up at the Heritage Gully, opposite platform number 18, CSMT, for the public on Monday, Central Railway (CR) officials said similar outlets would also be opened up at five more places - Kurla LTT, Neral, Kalyan, Igatpuri and Lonavala.
The restaurant, which has been converted from an old rail coach, will serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The structure has been built using a discarded rail coach and mounted on rails. While the restaurant will be a multi-cuisine one, it will be open for passengers and the general public too. It will operate following all the existing COVID-19 guidelines issued by the government.
Central Railway plans to explore the possibility of opening outlets at other places and tenders have been awarded for another five locations.
While CR General Manager Anil Kumar Lahoti did not speak to the media, a note said that the CSMT restaurant will be a fine-dining place offering a unique experience to diners and will accommodate 40 patrons inside the coach, which has 10 tables. The restaurant's interior has been decorated in a way so that people get to enjoy the experience of dining in a rail-themed setting. The license period of the restaurant is one year and it can be extended based on its performance.
