Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar
Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had received a death threat on December 22 when she was busy in a meeting at the BMC headquarters in Mumbai. A case was registered at Azad Maidan police station a couple of days ago, confirmed a senior official attached to the police station.
"I was busy in a meeting with my colleagues at BMC headquarters on December 22 when I received a call on my mobile phone. But I did not take the call. After two-three missed calls, the unknown person called my PA and told him that he will kill me. The unknown person also sent him a death threat message," Pednekar told Mid-day.
The Mayor's PA did not tell her about the call and blocked that phone number. "The unknown person again called me. This time I received the call and put it on speaker. The unknown person threatened me with dire consequences and also abused me. I was shocked as I did not know the caller. He said he was calling from Jamnagar in Gujarat and will kill me if I approach Mumbai police," Pednekar added.
"My colleague Vishakha Raut, who was sitting next to me, also heard the threat call and suggested that I approach the Mumbai police. I immediately called the Joint CP (law and order) Vishwas Nangre Patil and submitted a written complaint on December 22. After submitting the complaint, I went on a religious tour and returned on December 30," she further said.

The Mayor said that the cops at Azad Maidan police station had called me, Raut and my PA to record our statements. "We have submitted the pieces of evidence, including the screenshots of threat messages sent to my PA, WhatsApp call, etc, to the police," Pednekar said.
When asked if she was targeted due to political rivalry, she said, "I don't know anyone in Jamnagar. I am yet to interpret who can give death threat to Mumbai Mayor who belongs to Shiv Sena. I can understand that anyone can access my phone number but how did the accused get the mobile number of my PA? This is a matter of deep concern. The police officials are investigating."
A senior police official said, "The investigations are underway and we are very close to nab the accused."
