The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has organised a two-day workshop at Sahyadri State Guest House, in Walkeshwar on Thursday and Friday to discuss flood-risk areas in Mumbai, its effects on various factors and possible remedies. Cities around the world are facing various problems mainly due to climate crisis and geographical and other factors. Mumbai, too, has been facing the onslaught of heavy rain.
The two-day workshop, organised in collaboration with World Resources Institute India, will be followed by sessions on technical updates for flood management in Mumbai, assessment of potential hazards in flood-prone areas in Mumbai, and measures to overcome flood-prone conditions. The next day will be a session on the activities undertaken by the corporation for flood management in Mumbai, experience of Mumbaikars and the financial provision for flood prevention.
State Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Project) P Velarasu, former chief secretary of the state Ajoy Mehta and Jairaj Phatak will attend the workshop along with other experts in the fields of flood management, urban development, administration and NGOs.
