The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to make Mumbai roads potholes free ahead of Ganpati festival. The BMC release of Monday stated that the municipal commissioner has asked the local wards to fill the potholes on roads before the festival begins. "The arrival and immersion routes of Ganpati idols should be immediately cleared of potholes," stated the release.
The BMC has also asked the citizens to be alert while traveling over dangerous railway bridges and strictly follow the instructions given by the civic body.
"During this year's Ganeshotsav, the arrival and immersion routes should be reviewed so that the procession of Ganpati idols can be done in a smooth manner. We also appeal that the devotees be careful while taking the procession over the dangerous railway bridges and strictly follow the instructions given by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Mumbai Police," stated the BMC.
This year, the festival will be celebrated from September 19 to 28, 2023. The BMC has inspected the roads and repairs wherever necessary. BMC commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal has given orders to the joint commissioner, deputy commissioner, assistant commissioner of 24 wards and related agencies which stated instructions to complete all works related to Ganeshotsav on time, and to regularly inspect the roads and fill potholes immediately if found.
"Due to the rains, the process of filling the potholes that have appeared in some places on the roads in Mumbai is being completed. However, it should be ensured that no roads are obstructed by potholes during the arrival of Lord Ganesha during the Ganeshotsav period, as well as immersion," the BMC release said.
Be alert while taking processions over old and dangerous bridges
Some of the bridges on the railway line in the BMC area are in dangerous condition and repair work is underway. "As the works of some bridges are started after the monsoons, Ganesha devotees should be careful while crossing these bridges during the arrival-immersion procession of Lord Ganesha. In this regard, it has been appealed on behalf of the municipal administration to strictly follow the instructions and instructions issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Mumbai Police from time to time," the BMC said.
Bridges at Curry Road station, Chinchpokali railway station on Sane Guruji Marg (Arthur Road) and 'Mandlik Bridge' on the railway line in Byculla area will not carry more than 16 tonnes weight (combined weight of devotees and vehicles) at a time. "Dancing should not be performed on these bridges using loudspeakers. Devotees should not crowd the bridge at one time, proceed over the bridge immediately without stopping for a long time," the BMC said.
