The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has officially suspended the vaccination drive for the next two days (August 12 and 13) as there is limited stock of Covid-19 vaccines. However, the vaccine stock is expected to arrive by late Thursday night (August 12) and will be distributed to all government and municipal vaccination centres in Mumbai on August 13. Therefore, vaccination will resume on August 14.
Earlier, BMC used to start the drive the very next day the vaccines arrived, officials said. As per a Bombay High Court order, citizens should be given a day's notice about the suspension or resumption of the vaccination drive. Hence, the decision to suspend services even on August 13. However, a senior official said, "If we receive stock by morning then we will be able to resume by Friday (August 13) itself, but vaccination will be shut on August 12."
"The citizens of Mumbai are being constantly informed about the procurement and availability of vaccines. Vaccination will be resumed once stocks become available. A humble appeal to the citizens of Mumbai to cooperate with the BMC administration," read a press statement by the BMC.
