The BMC is prepared for COVID-19 vaccination for children in the age group of two to 17 years, which will start only after receiving guidelines from the Central government, said Mayor Kishori Pednekar. A day after Mumbai reported no death due to Covid, the mayor has urged the citizens to come forward and get vaccinated. The civic body has also started vaccination on wheels for the same, where a mobile vaccination center is set up inside the BEST bus.

Now the focus will be on children once the ICMR guidelines are in place. There are a total of 33 lakh children in the age group of two-17 years. "Our vaccination centres are reaching out to everyone, including the bed-ridden. We will begin to vaccinate kids as well once we get the guidelines from the government," said Pednekar.
The first lot to be vaccinated will be around 10 lakh children in the age group of 12-17 years, as the trials for the same are complete.

So far, BMC has completed vaccination of about 55 per cent of the eligible population aged above 18 years while around 97 per cent of the eligible citizens have taken at least one dose of vaccine.
