In view of the fact that corporators, MLAs and MPs have put up their posters and hoardings at vaccination centres in their electoral wards, claiming that they have been instrumental in setting them up, BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal issued a circular on Thursday asking ward officials to remove them immediately.
mid-day had reported about how corporators were showing up at smaller vaccination centres on days of walk-ins, trying to claim that they have been involved in the process of setting up the centres for the residents of their respective electoral wards. One of the centres at Andheri West also has a poster of the public representatives.
After various complaints regarding the same, Chahal issued the circular asking ward officials to get the posters removed.
"The BMC chief has asked all ward officials to write to the elected representatives, and also to talk to them personally, requesting them to remove the same. However, despite these measures if the hoardings or posters are not removed, the civic ward officials should take action and submit a report regarding the same," stated the order.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the BMC received about 90,000 doses of vaccine, which will help them resume the drive from today. The CoWIN portal has opened up appointments for Friday's slots and no walk-ins would be allowed. On Thursday, the vaccination drive was not conducted owing to the shortage of doses.
