Blue Line 1 of the Versova-Ghatkopar Metro has witnessed an increase of about 15,000 passengers per day compared to the previous week. This comes in the wake of the operation of new Metro lines. For the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, Blue Line 1 has crossed the 4-lakh daily passenger mark.
Of the two new lines, Red Line 7 starts from Gundavli on the Western Express Highway, reaches Dahisar to take a turn and returns to DN Nagar station on Link Road in Andheri West on the Yellow Line 2A. The lines meet Blue Line 1 in Andheri at the DN Nagar and Western Express Highway stations.
While the Yellow Line has 17 stations, the Red Line has 14. With 22 six-car trains running on the corridor, the total capacity per train is 2,308 passengers - 310 seated and 1,998 standing. Since launch day, trains on the new lines have seen over one lakh passengers daily.

The passenger number increase has been by 15,000 per day as compared to last week," a Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) spokesperson said. "DN Nagar station saw 8,000 new passengers while 6,000 visited Western Express Highway station," the spokesperson added.
Dhaval Shah of the Andheri Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizen's Association said, "Line 1 crowds and ridership numbers will increase further and they should act fast to increase the capacity to accommodate more commuters." MMOPL officials had earlier told mid-day that if needed, they would keep one train on standby for Line 1, as they anticipated footfall to rise by 20,000.
