A BEST bus caught fire near Bhandup station (West) in Mumbai on Friday. According to preliminary reports, the fire was caused as a result of a short circuit. The fire was extinguished immediately and there were no injuries reported in the incident. According to BEST officials, a bus route number 606 caught fire at 6.05 pm, which was extinguished.
The bus plies from Bhandup station (West) to Hanuman Nagar, Bhandup, a 2.8km journey with nine stops. Officials said it was a minor incident and a âline mechanic' posted at the station attended to the short circuit after the fire was put out.

The driver noticed the fire in the driver's cabin near the radiator and immediately vacated the bus. The bus staff with help from the public extinguished the fire within minutes with water before the fire-brigade arrived at the spot. The bus has been towed away to Vikhroli bus depot.
