Mumbai: At least 200 WR locals to be cancelled every day from today to November 5

Mumbai Local Train Update: As the Western Railway is adding another railway line between Khar and Goregaon, commuters will have to brace for inconvenience as there would be numerous cancellations during the mega block starting from October 27 to November 5. On average, there would be 200 local trains cancelled daily during the period. Western Railway daily runs 1,394 suburban trains.

On Friday and Saturday, there will be 256 local train cancellations each, including 129 in Virar-Dahanu-bound (down) direction and 127 in Churchgate (up) direction. On Sunday, there would be 116 (down) and 114 (up), that is, 230 train cancellations. From Monday to Friday, there would be 316 local train cancellations daily, with 158 in up and 158 in down direction every day. On Saturday, with 46 down and 47 up there will be 93 cancellations and on Sunday with 54 down and 56 up, there will be 110 cancellations.

Once the work is complete, the city's congested rail network will get an additional track of about 9 km in the middle of its suburban network that promises to segregate suburban and outstation trains on Western Railway and boost capacity to be in public service.

"Commuters will be informed daily through live updates on status of the cancellations on the official railway app, Yatri, which will include prior information about train cancellations of the next day. Users will get customised notification about cancellation for trains marked as ‘favourite' on the app. A daily live view of cancellation status and a dedicated section of "Commute News" will update users with the latest information. This will simplify commute planning," WR chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur said.

On the weekend, there will also be cancellations of local trains on Central Railway. Central Railway will also operate a block on the night of October 29 between Titwala and Kasara stations from 12.30 pm to 5.30 am for the works of new bridges and signal gantries. There will be cancellation of five local trains and short-termination of one. Suburban services will not be available between Titwala and Kasara section during the block period. There will also be rescheduling of one up (CSMT-bound) express train and five down express trains and regulation of 13 other trains.
