Mumbai: At 5,888, city records lowest COVID-19 count in April yet

The city registered 5,888 new cases on Saturday, the lowest in April after reaching a peak at 11,163 daily cases on April 4.

The number of deaths, however, is still on the higher side with 71 succumbing. In the state, 67,160 new cases and 676 deaths were reported on Saturday. Incidentally, the number of tests is also lesser than what was being done in the earlier weeks of April. As per Saturday's report, 39,584 tests were conducted across the city. Earlier, the number of tests were above 45,000.

Though the number of cases is lowering, the number of deaths continue to be a cause for concern. Of the 71 deaths reported on Saturday, 34 had comorbidities. The recovery rate is 85 per cent, and the doubling rate has increased to 54 days. The number of new cases in the state is steady with 67,160 cases registered on Saturday. Pune circle reported 13,715, Nashik circle 10,050 and Nagpur 13,403 cases respectively. After recording the highest number of deaths on Friday, the number of deaths dropped on Saturday, but is still on the higher side.

A total of 63,818 patients were discharged across Maharashtra on Saturday.
