Some 26 holes were drilled into the tree located opposite the Aashiyana building, Bandra (West)
Environmental activists and nature lovers have demanded strict action against those responsible, after a tree was found to have been drilled with several holes to kill it, at Bandra West. A non-cognisable (NC) offence has been registered against the owner of a nearby plot where the tree is located.
On Sunday evening a video was posted on the Instagram page of Bandra Buzz, saying, "Miscreants drilled 26 holes into the base of this tree and poisoned it on the pavement at 1st Road, Almeida Park, opp. the Aashiyana building, Bandra (West), leaving it to die a slow death." The page requested local political leaders and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials to take action. BMC H west ward officials promised action on social media.
Soon after the video was posted, angry local residents and nature lovers expressed their anger against the illegal act. Many demanded strict action against those responsible. In the video that was posted on Instagram, one can see the several holes made at the base of the tree. The tree appears to be completely healthy for now but green activists fear that it will die a slow death in coming weeks.

Punishment for the crime includes a fine of not less than Rs 1,000 which may extend up to Rs 5,000 for every offense.
