A 24-year-old doctor allegedly kills self by injecting himself with a drug at the civic-run Tuberculosis (TB) Hospital.

The doctor hailed from Jalgaon and was pursuing an MD degree at KEM Hospital in Parel.

According to the officials, the incident took place on Sunday when the doctor was deputed on duty at TB Hospital, he said.

"On Monday morning, Patil was found unconscious in the restroom of the hospital, where two wards are reserved for patients of KEM Hospital undergoing treatment for tuberculosis," the official said.

"The doctor was rushed to KEM Hospital, but declared dead," he said.

"The police recovered a syringe and two vials of a drug, which the doctor allegedly injected himself with and it proved fatal," the official said.

A case of accidental death has been registered at Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg police station.

Dr Adinath Patil was a first-year MD (medicine) student in KEM Hospital and was appointed as the resident medical officer.

"He came to the premises on Sunday night and joined duty. He was supposed to be relieved on Monday morning," said a police official from RAK Marg police station to mid-day.

"On Monday morning, when doctors who were supposed to relieve him from his duties couldn't find him at the ward, they tried calling him, but he didn't answer," the official added.

After graduating Patil appeared for NEET and secured a spot at GS Medical College for MD in medicine in 2022.

Speaking to mid-day Ajinkya Patil, Adinath's younger brother, who is an MBBS student at GS Medical College said, "He was unhappy with the workload he had and wanted to change college. He had expressed his thoughts to me and our parents".

"We have taken a statement from his younger brother," said Mahadeo Nimbalkar, Senior Inspector of RAK Marg police station.
