A 23-year-old pillion rider fell off the motorcycle and was crushed to death under the wheels of a mini bus on the Western Express Highway in suburban Kandivali in Mumbai on Wednesday, police told news agency PTI.
Police have detained the biker after the CCTV footage revealed that the two-wheeler entered the wrong lane of the highway due to which the pillion rider lost his balance, an official told PTI.
According to PTI, the deceased, identified as Utkarsh Sharma, was a resident of Kranti Nagar in Kandivali.
The official said the biker would be arrested after police registered a case under section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old woman riding pillion on a motorbike died after her 'dupatta' (stole) got entangled in a wheel of the two-wheeler in Maharashtra's Palghar district, police told PTI on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Sunday morning when Pratima Yadav, from Kandivali in neighbouring Mumbai, was returning with her husband after visiting a temple in Vasai area here, an official from Naigaon police station told PTI.
Her stole got entangled in the motorbike wheel near Bapane village on a highway. She got strangulated and fell down from the two-wheeler, the official told PTI.
The woman received severe injuries and was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared her brought dead, the police told PTI.
The body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem, they added.
In another incident, two persons were killed and four injured when a container truck overturned, jumped the divider and collided with five cars on Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Monday, police told PTI.
The accident occurred in Khopoli area of Raigad district around 9 am, when the container truck was heading to Mumbai from Pune, an official told PTI.
The heavy vehicle overturned, jumped the divider and collided with five cars travelling towards Pune, he said.
Of the occupants of these cars, a man and a woman were killed, while four women were injured in the accident, the official told PTI.
As per the preliminary probe, driver of the container truck was speeding and lost the control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and collide with the cars, he said.
A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the driver, the official told PTI.
