This operation comes in the wake of a significant drug-related development in Mumbai, where the local police had previously seized mephedrone with an estimated worth of Rs 300 crore. In that operation, 12 individuals from various cities were arrested. It included a raid on a drug manufacturing unit located in the Shinde village MIDC industrial area in Nashik, from where 133 kg of mephedrone valued at Rs 267 crore was confiscated.
Following the Mumbai police's actions in Shinde village, a concerted effort was initiated to locate closed shops, residences, godowns, and unused premises. Public awareness campaigns were also conducted to encourage community involvement and reporting of suspicious activities.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Monica Raut, a 51-year-old resident of Shinde village had rented out his godown approximately two months ago, but it had remained closed for some days. The individual grew suspicious that illicit substances were being manufactured within the premises and promptly alerted the police.
In the subsequent raid, law enforcement officials discovered 4.87 kg of a drug-like substance referred to as MD, valued at approximately Rs 5.84 crore, inside the godown. The total value of the confiscated contraband, along with other materials found in the godown, was estimated to be around Rs 5,94,60,300.
