Ticket checking drive conducted by Western Railway at Dadar station

The day-long ticket checking drive conducted by Western Railway at Dadar station last week may be a world record, claim officials. By the day's end, the exhaustive ticket-checking operation had identified a staggering 1,647 cases of ticketless travel, resulting in a substantial recovery of Rs 4,21,960.

"Like a tsunami, 195 ticket-checking staff descended at Dadar station (Western Railway) in the morning of September 30 and the intensive check went on during the entire day and sent shock waves amongst ticketless travellers, so much so that even the m-indicator suburban app was buzzing with alerts for commuters to buy tickets at Dadar, else there was big trouble waiting for them!" a senior official said.

"By the end of the day, the drive detected 1,647 cases making a recovery of Rs 4,21,960, thus making it the Biggest Fortress Check in the history of Indian Railways. In fact, nowhere else even outside India has such an extensive day-long ticket checking drive focusing on a single station with such a quantum of recovery has ever been conducted," he added.

"The intensity of this drive is evident from a video shared by a commuter on Twitter which shows how the ticket checking squad had made a 'wall' on the main FOB at Dadar," the official added.
