Mumbai: 16 children fall ill after consuming mid day meal in BMC-run school in Govandi

In a concerning incident in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai, as many as 16 children from a Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run school in Govandi fell ill after consuming the mid day meal on Friday morning, the officials said.

They said that all the affected students have been admitted to Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital in Govandi, and according to medical professionals, their health is currently stable.

The incident took place on Friday morning when students at the BMC-run Mumbai Public School in Anik Village were served dal khichadi for their mid-day meal. After consuming the meal, several students began experiencing throat pain, with some even vomiting and complaining of stomach discomfort. As a precaution, all the affected students were promptly transported to Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital (also known as Shatabdi Hospital) for medical attention.

Dr. Sunil Pakle, Medical Superintendent at Shatabdi Hospital, stated, "The students were brought to the hospital around 11 am, as they had complained of vomiting and throat pain. They are all currently under observation, and everyone is in stable condition."

Simultaneously, officials from the civic body and Govandi police stations have visited the school to collect food samples and inspect other food items for further investigation.
