Apart from the on-street parking, members of the Mumbai Parking Authority discussed several other points with the civic chief Praveen Pardeshi on Thursday. After implementing on-street parking, MPA has stressed on the need to urge the Mumbai Traffic Police to help in ensuring that vehicles are parked in the public parking lots that are not getting utilised.

They are also contemplating moving 3500 private buses to off-street parking spaces to help ease the traffic movement in the city. MPA has proposed that these private buses should be parked in empty Octroi nakas in Mulund and Dahisar that can be opened up for day and night parking. The provision of private parking in BEST depots has yielded quite a bit of revenue for the civic body. Between August and September 3, Rs 17.6 lakh has been collected as parking charges from buses, cars, two-wheelers and tempos.
