The unemployed son would abuse his parents under the influence of alcohol every day; on Monday, he hit his father with a grinding stone, enraged, the older man stabbed him
A 79-year-old man was arrested by the Kamothe police in Navi Mumbai for brutally murdering his 35-year-old son with a knife on Monday afternoon. The Kamothe police also registered a cross complaint against the deceased, as he had first assaulted his father with a grinding stone. After the son succumbed to his injuries, the father was booked for the murder.

According to the police the accused has been identified as Shankar Howal, the deceased is Rahul Howal. Shankar stays with his wife, his son (Rahul) and a widowed daughter at Anand Sarovar society, sector number 6, at Kamothe. The Howals' other daughter and complainant in the case, Vashali Sagare (36), is married and stays in Kurla. Shankar works as a tailor in Kamothe, while Rahul, who used to work in a private firm in MIDC, was jobless for more than 45 days.
The incident took place on Monday around 3:30 pm, when Rahul came home drunk and started abusing his parents. "He started abusing his parents and caught hold of his father and pushed him against a wall. He then tried to hit him with a grinding stone on his head, but it slipped and hit his shoulder. The father, who was troubled and irritated by the daily harassment by Rahul, grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the neck, head and body. The daughter and parents then took Rahul to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial hospital for treatment. Vaishali informed us," said MR Kekane, Assistant Police Inspector, Kamothe police station.
The police said Rahul was unmarried and angry with his parents as he felt they were not bothered about his marriage. He also wanted money from his father, as they had sold another flat they owned, few days ago. He used come home every day under the influence of alcohol and abuse his parents. "On Monday afternoon too he was drunk and started assaulting his father, and hit him with a grinding stone. We have registered a case against the deceased for assaulting his father, and have registered a murder case against the father, who has been arrested and produced in court," said Mamta D'Souza, Senior Police Inspector, Kamothe police station.
