Complaint against Vishal Dadlani and Cong supporter Tehseen Poonawalla for hurting religious sentiments

Tweeting about Jain monk Tarun Sagar has landed Vishal Dadlani and Congress supporter Tehseen Poonawalla in trouble. A complaint has been filed against the two at Chembur Police Station for hurting religious sentiments of the Jain community. The two had tweeted about the monk after he delivered an address in the Haryana Assembly. Sagar is a monk from the Digambar sect of Jainism. Digambar monks do not wear any clothing. Consequently, Sagar was in the nude when he addressed the Assembly on Friday.

In his 40-minute speech, called ‘Kadve Vachan,' the monk spoke about female foeticide, politicians who have criminal cases registered against them and took pot shots at Pakistan. He also made an analogy between religion and politics, where he likened men to religion and women to politics. The complaint is against one tweet each made by Dadlani and Poonawalla. While Dadlani has since deleted his tweet, Poonawalla did not follow suit.

Complainant says
The complainant, Kushal Mehra, is affiliated to the BJP. He went to the police station with three of his friends and registered the complaint yesterday. "The senior police inspector heard us and took our complaint. I told the officers that when Kamlesh Tiwari is behind bars because he hurt religious sentiments, then these two should also be put behind bars for hurting religious sentiments of Jains," said Mehra.

SG Dal, senior police inspector of Chembur said, "We have received a complaint against Dadlani and Poonawalla, but we haven't yet registered the FIR, because we are first carrying out an investigation regarding the same. Post which, we will take a decision to register an FIR or not."

When mid-day contacted Poonawalla, he claimed that he is unaware about the complaint registered against him in Mumbai and didn't think that he had hurt anyone. "I will get the details first and get back, on the same," said Poonawala. Despite repeated attempts, Dadlani was unavailable for comment. However, he deleted his tweets on the monk and profusely apologised for his earlier remarks.
