It was 7.30 pm when the 26-yr-old, who was looking for an auto, was pushed to the ground by two men; she beat the duo who were trying to snatch her purse, even as blood oozed from her head
A young woman managed to fight off two robbers who accosted her near a restaurant in Vikhroli (West) last week. Though she managed to prevent them from taking her purse, she lost her mobile phone to the duo.
Brave girl: A bleeding Esha Singh managed to fight the two robbers and prevent her purse from being snatched. Police said there were no CCTV cameras near the spot where the incident occurred.
What is infuriating is that the incident occurred at 7.30 pm, when the woman was looking for an auto rickshaw to go home. The case has been registered at Parksite police station. According to the police, the victim was identified as Esha Singh (26), a digital media professional. The incident occurred on November 2 near Jughead's restaurant in Kailash Complex lane, Vikhroli (West). Singh had gone there at 6 pm with her friends. She came out at 7.30 pm and then started looking for an auto rickshaw to go home to her flat in the adjacent Hiranandani township.
She was walking while talking on the phone when two men on a motorcycle started following her. One of them suddenly got down, grabbed her cellphone and pushed her from behind. Singh landed on her nose and hurt herself badly.
Still, she got up to fight the duo who, by then, were making attempts to snatch her bag. In the scuffle, she fell on her head again. The bleeding Singh still managed to beat the robbers and fight them off. The two men fled from the spot.
"I managed to save my purse, but they stole my mobile phone. I was seriously injured in this incident and went to the nearby police chowky to take help to nab the robbers. The officer present there advised me to first to go to the hospital to get my injuries treated and then file a complaint," Singh told mid-day.
She then went to the nearby L H Hiranandani Hospital, where she received stitches to the back of her head and also underwent a CT scan. She also injured her hand and nose, and is still in pain.
Thereafter, she filed a complaint. The police registered a case under section 392 (robbery) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Suresh Sakpal, senior police inspector of Parksite police station said, "Such an incident took place on this street after a long time. There were no CCTV cameras in that spot where it happened."
