Mumbai: IMD issues orange alert with heavy rain forecast at isolated places

Declaring the arrival of Southwest Monsoon on Wednesday over Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, the MeT department had said that Mumbai will continue to experience heavy rainfall till June 15.

As Mumbai and neighbouring areas witness heavy rainfall leading to water logging, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert with a forecast of heavy rain at isolated places in Mumbai and suburbs for the weekend.

"Moderate to heavy rainfall in city and suburbs with the possibility of very heavy falls at isolated places for the next 48 hours," IMD said.

Declaring the arrival of Southwest Monsoon on Wednesday over Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, the MeT department had said that Mumbai will continue to experience heavy rainfall till June 15.

The weather office has also issued a warning for Palghar, Thane, and Raigad, stating that due to the strengthening of westerly winds along the west coast, in association with low pressure area (due to cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal), widespread rains with heavy go very heavy falls likely to continue in coastal Maharashtra from June 10-15.

The Central Railways informed that the trains are running on all corridors.

Over the past 24 hours, IMD's Santacruz observatory recorded 231.3 mm rainfall, while the Colaba observatory recorded 85.8 mm rainfall. The Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 26.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 23.4 degrees Celsius, while the Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 26.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has directed officials to inspect all manholes in the city, after a video of two women falling into an open drain amid heavy rainfall surfaced on social media.
